Types of CTFs
Jeopardy-style Capture The Flag (CTF) events consist of a series of questions or challenges in various categories. Participants solve these challenges to earn points, and the goal is to score as many points as possible within the given time frame. Each challenge typically varies in difficulty and point value, and categories can include topics like cryptography, web security, forensics, and more.
Attack-Defense Capture The Flag (CTF) events involve teams competing against each other by trying to defend their own servers while attacking the servers of their opponents. This type of CTF requires participants to have skills in both offensive and defensive cybersecurity techniques. The objective is to maintain control over your systems while successfully compromising others, earning points for defense and successful attacks.
Mixed Capture The Flag (CTF) events combine elements of both Jeopardy-style and Attack-Defense formats. Participants may encounter a variety of challenges that require solving specific problems as well as engaging in direct competition with other teams. This type of event tests a broad range of skills, requiring teams to be adaptable and proficient in multiple areas of cybersecurity. The goal is to perform well in both solving challenges and defending/attacking systems to earn a high score.
